INEC Denies Jimoh Ibrahim Bribe Allegations
INEC has described as false, allegations by Mr Jimoh Ibrahim, that its official demanded $1million bribe to accept his candidacy.
Adedeji Soyebi, INEC National Commissioner in charge of Publicity revealed this in a statement on Monday.
Ibrahim had alleged that the official demanded bribe from him to accept his candidacy after the court order by Justice Okon Abang.
He said Mr Ibrahim turned up at INEC headquarters with a copy of court document. He demanded to be accepted as the official candidate of the PDP. Mrs Toyin Babalola then called three other lawyers in her department to witness her encounter with Ibrahim. The encounter lasted only 15 minutes.
“It should however be noted that court orders/judgments are served by court bailiffs and not individual parties.”
“Furthermore, INEC only receives nomination papers from the national chairmen of political parties or their designated officials and not aspirants.”
INEC re-assured Nigerians that it would never succumb to any form of blackmail or intimidation.
