Biafra: IPOB Vows To Continue Agitation, Sends Strong Warning To FG
The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed to continue its agitation for the Republic of Biafra.
Concise News reports that the statement of the pro-Biafra group is coming after members of the group clashed with officers of the Nigerian Police during its procession last week in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Speaking on the incident, the Anambra Police command said a policeman died in the protest while a Divisional Police Officer in the area was hospitalised following injuries sustained in the clash. It was learned that IPOB members also sustained injuries.
In the wake of the attack, the Anambra state police command arrested 33 suspected IPOB members and paraded them on Sunday.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, also directed an urgent recovery of two AK47 rifles and a Berretta piston allegedly snatched from a slain police officer and others by the suspected IPOB members.
Reacting to the clash in a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group warned that days are coming when Nigerian security agents will no longer “sneak up behind IPOB rally formations anywhere in Biafraland and be spared”.
The statement reads in part: “The one and only IPOB ably led by our supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must continue our evangelism and sensitization for Biafra referendum no matter the threats from Nigerian government and her security agencies.
“It is very pathetic and unbelievable to all Nigerians that Nigerian security forces who have been receiving serious and consistent thrashing from Boko Haram terrorists operating in the North East of Arewa north without resistance would summon the courage and temerity to go around Biafraland harassing unarmed civilians who are peaceful rallying on their own.
“The cowardly and wretched security agencies of Nigeria cannot confront and withstand Boko Haram terrorist but always find strength and courage in killing innocent Biafrans going about their lawful business.
“It is important we remind this despotic Nigerian Government and her security forces that days are coming when they will no longer sneak up behind IPOB rally formations anywhere in Biafraland and be spared,” the secessionist group warned.
