Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez has signed a two-year loan deal with Bayern Munich with an option to buy.

The 25-year-old, subject of a lot of transfer speculation, played a second fiddle role in Madrid’s run to the league and champions league double.

Speaking on the move, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the Bayern executive board chairman, said: “We are very happy that we have managed to conclude this transfer. The signing of James Rodríguez was the big wish from our manager, Carlo Ancelotti, after the two of them worked together successfully at Real Madrid.”

Rodriguez joined Real from Monaco in July 2014 for £71m and signed a six-year deal with the Los Blancos.

He was heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United.
