Memphis Depay, a forward for Barcelona, has been publicly asked by manager Xavi Hernandes not to leave the team during the active transfer window.
Depay was assured by Xavi that he will see more action at Barcelona, with the manager expressing satisfaction and admiration for player’s demeanor.
It appeared inevitable that Depay would leave Camp Nou in order to play more frequently after the six-month period in which players like Ferran Torres, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha were signed.
Although mostly due to injury, Depay has only played 131 minutes for Barcelona this season.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey match with CF Intercity on Wednesday, Xavi was asked about the possibility of the Netherlands international departing.
He said at his pre-match press conference, “I don’t want anyone to leave. I am delighted with the squad. It seems there won’t be a market for us. I’m happy with Depay.
“His attitude is good and he will be important to us. He has the ability to make a difference. He’ll have minutes. Like all of them.”
