At 20, she stole the attention of 23-year-old Mackay at a village hall dance to mark their liberation but he was too shy to approach her.
He however, asked a friend if Edith would dance with him, but she vehemently refused insisting she would only oblige if he asked her himself.
He agreed and then a new love story made its entry into their years of romance.
On 17 July, 1946, they became married. They have two children, with seven grand-children and five great-grand children. They worked as hoteliers before relocating to a care home in Dundee after retirement.
