Why We Beat Roma In Europa League Final – Sevilla Coach

Jose Luis Mendilibar, the head coach of Sevilla, acknowledged the importance of scoring early in the second half in their triumphant Europa League final against AS Roma, led by Jose Mourinho. The match took place at the Puskas Arena football stadium in Budapest, Hungary, on Wednesday night.
Gonzalo Montiel became the hero for Sevilla, scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 draw at the conclusion of extra time. Roma had initially taken the lead in the first half courtesy of Paulo Dybala, but Sevilla managed to level the score against the Serie A side after the break with Gianluca Mancini’s own goal.
Mendilibar’s recognition of the significance of the quick second-half goal highlights the strategic approach taken by Sevilla, ultimately leading to their victory in the intense Europa League final.
Mendilibar said, “When they scored against us, you think that it will be very difficult to score against them. The equaliser came quickly in the second half and gave us the strength to continue in the fight to win the game.
“I’m happy to be here, to have won for the club, which was having a hard time when we got here. We have done something good that can have repercussions for the good of the club.
“When I take a holiday, I will know what we have done. We started badly, they played comfortably. And then, in the second half, we changed and it was tough.
“In extra time, nothing happened, but we had the success of the penalties.”
