Abia Warriors pipped Gombe United 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium, after wasting many goal-scoring chances in one of Sunday’s games of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The Warriors came into the game showing a lot of determination to tear their visitors from the northeast apart.

But they later turned out to be wasteful as they failed to put away clear-cut chances.

However, in the 83rd minute, Sunday Adetunji sent the spectators into rapture when he scored the all-important goal.

Emordi unimpressed

And in spite of the late winner, head coach of the side, Okey Emordi, expressed disappointment over his team’s performance.

“Nobody will be happy that we wasted a lot of our chances,” he said, adding that he had to change his plan in the second half  ”because the game was not what I expected’’.

The coach however expressed joy that they eventually won the game, noting that it could have as well finished all-square.

On his part, assistant coach of Gombe United, Hassan, who lauded the performance of his team, blamed the lone goal on “a minor mistake’’ by one of his defenders “who did not clear the ball well’’.

“But it’s part of the game, winning, losing or drawing,’’ he said
