VAT Collection: This Is No Time For Litigations -FIRS

The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has said taxpayers in all stated should continue to pay their Value Added Tax to the Service.

This is as it pointed out that the Court of Appeals has halted the judgment by a Federal High Court which permitted states to collect the VAT and not the FIRS.

According to the FIRS, “The Appeal Court’s ruling, halting the execution of the judgment of the Federal High Court required all parties to maintain status quo ante bellenum. As such, FIRS shall continue to administer VAT in all the states of the Federation unless the appellate court rules otherwise.

The ruling of the Court of Appeal, therefore, employs all taxpayers in all the states to continue to pay their VAT, and for the FIRS to continue to collect VAT on behalf of the government in compliance with the BAT Act.”
