The Imo State Government has denied reports stating that Governor Hope Uzodinma backed the move to ensure that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu gets a Northern Muslim as his running mate for the 2023 oresidency.
According to a statement signed by the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, the Governor said at no time did he canvass such a position.
The statement said the Governor was only emphatic that religion should not be a factor in picking a vice-presidential candidate for the party but competence.
“How can this position amount to advocating for Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket?” The Commissioner asked.
He went on to accuse those he described as mischief makers of having twisted the governor’s statement.
“His Excellency made it clear that there is no part of the Constitution where religion is a factor in choosing the President or his vice,” he said.
