Trump Confirms Phone Chat With President Muhammadu Buhari
US President, Donald Trump has confirmed his phone conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently in the United Kingdom on an extended medical vacation.
This was confirmed in a statement by Sean Spicer, the White House Press Secretary, where he noted that the US president held phone chats with the heads of Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Peru and Colombia.
The confirmation puts to rest media speculations about the veracity of the call and also deals a blow to runours of the president’s incapacitation, and in some cases, death. A rumour that gained life because President Buhari has not made any public appearance since going to London for leave on January 19.
The call, which was made on February 13, 2017, was at the behest of Trump and described by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, as cordial.
In a statement to the CNN, he said: “President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he is doing, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.”
