Tennis: 16th Governor’s Cup Serves Off In Lagos

The Main Draws of the 16th Governors Cup Lagos Tennis Championship serve off on Monday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

The tournament is an International Tennis Federation (ITF) sanctioned event, which features players in male and female categories for ranking points.

Spain’s Enrique Lopez-Perez is top seed in the men’s category, while Valetini Grammatikopoulou from Greece is the number one seed in the women’s event.

Men’s event has the likes of Nigeria’s Christian Paul, Umaru Balami, Moses Michael, and Sylvester Emmanuel.

Others are Boy Westerhof from The Netherlands, France’s Calvin Hemerdon and Karim-Mohamed Maamoun from Egypt.

The players, who are from 39 countries of the world, will be fighting for ranking points and 50, 000 dollars prize money in both categories.

The finals of the first leg will hold on Saturday, October 15.

Some Nigerians who got to this stage through the qualifiers include Henry Atseye, Nonso Madueke, Aanu Ayegbusi, Osariemen Airhunmwunde, Edward Christopher Anefu and Ikechukwu Iloputa.
