Team Lagos Dominates Swimming Events at National Youth Games

In a spectacular display of aquatic prowess, Team Lagos swimmers delivered a stellar performance on the first day of the National Youth Games, setting the stage for an impressive medal haul in the swimming events.

As the competition kicked off, the athletes from Lagos demonstrated their mettle, claiming a total of three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals across eight fiercely contested finals.

The star of the day was Oluwademilade Akanbi, who etched her name in gold with remarkable victories. Akanbi clinched Team Lagos’s first gold medal in the demanding 50 meters backstroke for girls, powering through the water with a dazzling time of 32.62 seconds. Undeterred, she later surged to victory once again, this time in the 100 meters Butterfly, crossing the finish line in just 1 minute and 19 seconds.

Adding to the medal tally was Chioma Kanu, who showcased her prowess in the 100 meters Breaststroke for girls. Kanu touched the wall in a swift 1 minute and 27 seconds, leaving her competitors, Ebigide Success of Team Delta and Ebia Obaten Gift from Team Cross Rivers, trailing in her wake.

Not to be overshadowed, Team Lagos secured two silver medals in impressive fashion. Funmilayo Dimeyin displayed her versatility in the 200 meters Individual Medley, while Inioluwa Dayo-Dumoye impressed in the intensely competitive 100 meters Breaststroke boys event.

With this spectacular start, Team Lagos has set high expectations for the remainder of the National Youth Games, showcasing their commitment to excellence in swimming. As the competition continues, all eyes are on Team Lagos as they aim to continue their medal-winning streak and dominate the pool.
