Buhari Travels To Jordan For Counter-terrorism Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday departed Abuja for Jordan ahead of counter-terrorism summit holding in Aqaba.

The Presidency confirmed the President’s departure in a tweet on Friday afternoon.

Buhari was accompanied by governors Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Yahaya Bello of Kogi and Abubakar Bello of Niger States.

Hosted by His Majesty, King Abdullah II of Jordan, the summit will also be attended by other West African leaders and representatives of governments of 48 countries among others.

Buhari is expected to join other Heads of State at a retreat tagged ‘Aqaba Retreat’ in the review of strategies in the execution of war against terrorism.

Media aide to Buhari Femi Adesina had said in a statement on Thursday, that the president would discuss issues surrounding terrorism in the country as well as seek measures to cripple activities of insurgents.

The President would also hold bilateral meetings with some Heads of State to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and such countries.

The retreat is scheduled to hold between December 2 to 3, 2017.
