Reps Drop Controversial Election Re-ordering Bill

The House of Representatives on Wednesday dropped the bill seeking to amend the electoral act.

The amendment sought to change the sequence of the election in a way that the presidential election comes last, after the state assemblies/national assembly and governorship elections.

The green chamber dropped the bill during plenary on Wednesday after Edward Pwajok, a Plateau lawmaker, who sponsored the bill, said he was withdrawing it.

The lawmaker after consultations, he was advised to withdraw the bill.

Concise News reported that the Senate on Wednesday stepped down the Electoral Act 2010 Amendment Bill which seeks to reorder the sequence of polls in a general election.

Senators resolved that the bill be stepped down and referred to the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with a mandate to remove the clauses faulted by President Muhammadu Buhari, for which he withdrew his assent.
