The Federal Government on Wednesday said security operatives have started to take precautionary measures over the declaration made by some Northern Youth Groups against the Igbos living in the North.
On Tuesday, it was reported that a coalition of Northern group gave the Igbos living and doing business in the North three months ultimatum to vacate the region or be forced out.
However, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, assured that security operatives have already taken up the threat. He also added that the threat, if not taken serious, can destabilize the country.
The minister stated this while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The minister noted that this is not the first time that a group will issue statement threatening another group. He, however, stated that despite this, security operatives won’t handle this particular threat with kids gloves.
”I want to assure you that security organisations are on top of this matter,” he said.
The minister, however, said the threat, which has been criticised by many prominent Nigerians, including Gov Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, was not mentioned during the weekly FEC meeting.
