ITT World Championship: Aruna Quadri Reveals Why He Crashed Out Early
Aruna Quadri, Nigeria’s number one table tennis player revealed what led to his early elimination at the ongoing ITT World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Aruna Quadri who was ousted in the round of 32 admitted that he lost because he met a better opponent.
According to him, Quadri he gave his best in the game, but he eventually bowed to tricky shots by China’s Fan Zhendong in the third round of men’s singles, as the African champion lost the first game, levelled up at 9-9 and ended up losing 12-10.
Quadri was no match to the Asian giant in the second and third games with the Chinese star winning 11-2, 11-6, while the Nigerian star tried all his best to rally back in the fourth game.
He started leading, but Zhendong again stormed back and levelled to win at 11-9, as the tie eventually ended 4-0 (12-10, 11-2, 11-6, 11-9) in favour of the Chinese star inside Hungexpo Hall, Budapest.
He said; “I am so disappointed because of this. I am disappointed with my performance in the competition because this is another good performance for me.
“I wanted to win, but I met a better player. That showed in the fourth game when I gave my best to get back into the match, but he still did not bow. That showed he was truly better than me.
“Fan Zhendong’s performance showed why he is ranked number one in the world. So, I must give kudos to him and I hope to be back next time.”
