Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has lauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their commendable performance at the recently concluded 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The governor expressed his admiration for the Nigerian team’s journey to the tournament’s final, highlighting their resilience and determination throughout the competition.
Despite a hard-fought battle, the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, clinched the title by defeating the Nigerian team 2-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Sunday night.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that despite the Super Eagles’ loss in the final, they merit recognition for their exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, on Monday, the governor extended his appreciation to the players, coaching staff, and the entire management of the team for bringing pride to Nigeria by reaching the final against formidable odds.
The statement partly reads, “The Super Eagles fought gallantly to advance to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations by defeating many countries. The team’s participation in the final on Sunday is a testament to the determination, resilience and commitment of the Super Eagles to the competition.”
