The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, on Thursday accused Governor Nyesom Wike of interfering with police investigation of those arrested allegedly printing fake INEC result sheets.

This is contained in a statement issued by the party’s Chairman in the state, Davies Ikanya, in Port Harcourt.

The police had on Saturday arrested some individuals allegedly involved in printing fake result sheets. This happened few days after the national electoral commission fixed December 10 for legislative re-run elections in the state.

Governor Wike, according to Concise News investigations, is accusing the police of plotting to cover-up the matter by transferring the case to its Zone 6 headquarters in Calabar, Cross Rivers, for investigation.

The APC described Wike’s position as misleading

“APC’s attention has been drawn to recent utterances by Governor Nyesom Wike aimed at interfering with police investigation concerning arrest of persons allegedly involved in printing of sensitive INEC materials,” says the statement.

“Particularly, the APC vehemently rejects attempts by Wike to dictate how the police will go about performing its duties.

“The governor’s statement amount to undue interference as well as unbridled attempts to force the hands of the police in the direction of the governor’s choosing – of which we condemn in its entirety.

“We, therefore, call on Wike, as an interested party, to desist from ongoing campaign to intimidate the Police; twist facts and also mislead the public,” it said.

The APC urged the governor to stop overheating the polity. The party says this is not helpful as the state prepares for the re-run national and also state legislative elections.

It stressed that Wike must allow the police to carry out its investigations in the best way possible. The APC also urged Wike to allow the police to work within its established methods.
