Rangnick Speaks On Maguire Tactical Tweak

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has praised club captain Harry Maguire following his on-field reaction during the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

The 29-year-old’s name was booed when it was read out at Wembley before England’s friendly win over Ivory Coast last week, with many of both his international team-mates sending messages of support soon afterwards.

Following our draw at Old Trafford against the Foxes, Ralf was quick to point out the defender’s ‘almost flawless’ performance, insisting he expected nothing less from our no.5.

“Both as expected,” began the German, when asked about Harry’s performance and subsequent reaction.

“The reaction of our supporters was as it always is. Our supporters are one of the best, if not the best, in England.

“Harry played well and he had an almost flawless game today defensively. It was a solid performance by him.”
United responded within minutes of falling behind at the Theatre of Dreams against the Foxes, with Fred marking his 100th Premier League appearance by sweeping home the equaliser following Kelechi Iheanacho’s opener

Although the Reds couldn’t find a decisive goal late on, despite our best attempts, Rangnick did deliver some further insight on a tactical tweak he and Maguire have both been in discussion over in recent weeks.

“Since I arrived, we have been discussing this because he prefers to play on the left side although he is right footed,” Ralf added.

“And now I saw him play for England last week, when he played in a back four on the right side, that’s why I decided that he should play on the right side which is better for him anyway when we open up the game from our backline for him as a right-footed player.

“I think it’s a lot easier for him to play from there.”

It will be interesting to see if Harry is on the right of the central defensive partnership when we are next in action, at Everton next Saturday.
