Police Thwart Planned Robbery in Lagos, Seize Weapons

In a late-night operation in Lagos, police detained two individuals and confiscated several weapons, disrupting what appeared to be an imminent robbery. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 5, 2024, around 10 PM when officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stopped a mini bus during their routine patrol in the Adekunle area of Yaba.

The vehicle, en route from Ketu to Ojota, is a type known locally as “Korope.” Upon searching the bus, authorities found three locally made pistols along with six cartridges. The two men arrested in connection with the find were identified as Ademola Adeniyi, 38, and Anjorin Afeez, 41.

Initial investigations suggest that the suspects, along with other unidentified gang members, had boarded the bus at Jeba Bus Stop in Ebute Metta, purportedly heading to commit a robbery. The quick intervention by the police likely prevented a violent crime.

Both suspects are being held for further questioning as police continue to delve deeper into the case, aiming to unearth potential accomplices and additional details of the planned criminal activity. The recovery of the weapons marks a significant success in the ongoing efforts by Lagos police to curb street crime and ensure public safety.
