Police Intercept Suspect with Illegal Weapon, POS Machine in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has disclosed the apprehension of Francis Okoye Obinna, a 22-year-old man, during a routine stop and search operation along the Benin-Lagos expressway on April 7th, 2024.

According to the police report, Obinna, who was traveling from Lagos to Anambra State, was found in possession of a Brownie Pistol bearing breach No. PZ1833, along with 9 rounds of 6mm ammunition and a POS machine.

In his statement to the police, Obinna claimed that he was given the weapon by an individual named Emma in Lagos to threaten another individual, Mr. Paul Okoye, whom he accused of his father’s death allegedly caused by a charm in Anambra State.

However, subsequent investigations by the Edo State Police Command revealed inconsistencies in Obinna’s account upon reaching Lagos. The police are continuing their inquiries to determine the origins of the firearm and the POS machine, as well as the purpose for which they were intended.

The interception underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons and criminal activities across Nigeria. The Edo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens through proactive measures and thorough investigations.
