Police Arrest Man For Having Sex With 10-Year-Old Boy
Police in Oyo State, south-west Nigeria, have instituted a criminal charge against one Collins Obi for allegedly having sex with a 10-year-old son of his neighbour.
Obi, a 20-year-old teacher with Capstone Mission Academy, Owowaye, Agbokojo, Ibadan, was arraigned before an Iyaganku Senior Magistrate’s court.
The Police Prosecutor Cpl. Oluseye Oyebanji told the court that Obi had sexually abused the boy (name withheld) on 6 November 2016, at about 6pm at his resident, 10 Oredeyin street, Oke-Ado,Ibadan.
He earned N30 daily as teacher
The prosecutor said Obi warned the boy not to mention it to anyone. But the boy told his mother. The mother then reported it to the police.
What the law says
Oyebanji said the offence contravened section 214 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol.II Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence when it was read to him in court.
The Senior Magistrate Muniràt Giwa-Babalola granted the accused bail. It is in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. She then adjourned the case to December 28, for hearing.
If Obi is found guilty of the offence, he is liable to 14 years imprisonment.
