The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has vowed to appeal the judgment by the tribunal that upheld the election of Francis Nwifuru as the Governor of Ebonyi State.
The party which vowed to reclaim its mandate also urged its supporters in the state to maintain calm.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Ifeanyi Nworie, while fielding questions from journalists.
He said, “We are dissatisfied with the judgment. The party is convinced and would be going for appeal. Thank God the tribunal admitted that the issue of membership and defection can be tried in the court and at the appeal court. We call on our members to be calm. Justice delayed is not always justice denied. ”
Also speaking, the counsel to the PDP governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Idoko, said the judgment will be appealed by his client.
Idoko said, “This is just the first step we still have the court of appeal. We will test this judgment at the court of appeal. We are not satisfied with the judgment. We are particularly displeased on the issue of his membership. We brought our petition based on section 177 of the constitution. The issue of qualification is both pre and post-election matter. We will be testing that at the appeal. As we get the judgement we would also point out other issues to canvass for at the court of appeal.”
