Former Vice President Alex Ekwueme says the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structured the party in way that it would hold on to power for the next 50 years.

He made this known while receiving members of the party’s Strategy Review and Inter Party Affairs Committee in Enugu, south-south Nigeria.

”The story of PDP is one that sometimes makes me try to weep each time I remember the party because the founding fathers said that we are going to be in charge for 50 years or more.

”The idea of the PDP is not just an ordinary party but a mass movement for all Nigerians, just like the ANC,” he said.

Ekwueme said the re-registration and subsequent poor handling of grievances by party officials in Anambra State, resulted in the mass defection among party stalwarts.

Aminu Wali, who led the committee’s visit, stated that the defeat at the 2015 general election was as a result of impunity by party members.
