Passengers Escape as Airplane Lands Awkwardly at Port Harcourt Airport

Passengers onboard the Value-Jet BX-R that landed awkwardly on the runway at the Port Harcourt Airport were unhurt from the accident.

This was disclosed in a terse statement issued by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

According to NEMA, the runway at the airport has since been cleared off for the resumption of flight activities.

The statement read, “NEMA South South Zonal office Responded to a call from the Airport manager at about 16:45 Hrs regarding a flight from Lagos to port Harcourt with over 100 passengers .

“The plane landed missing the landing point on the tarmac and sped off the runway into the muddy grassy bush at the airport. All passengers were safe and safely evacuated with their luggages.

“Stakeholders with NEMA at the airport Include the Nigeria Airforce , the police, NCAA, FAAN and their security, Airport fire service.

“The airport manager is requesting assistance for the pulling out of the aircraft from the mud after the AIB s final assessment today or tomorrow.

“The runway has been cleared for flight activities to resume operations. The area of the accident had been cordoned out of the take off and landing zones.’
