A 47 year-old pastor, Peace Udoh, has been arrested and detained by the police for selling 64 babies. The pastor who presides over Divine Yard Deliverance Ministry in Iyana Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State, was accused of operating a baby factory in her church.
According to Punch, Peace Udoh was apprehended alongside Miss Angela Akpan, a victim’s sister. A nurse, Bukola Ajala, who reportedly helps in complicated child-births, was also apprehended.
It was gathered that Bukola Ajala takes care of the complicated cases in her clinic, El-shaddai. The clinic is located just some blocks away from the church.
Ajala said for each delivery, patients pay the sum of 15,000 to 17,000 naira per delivery.
The arrest
According to Punch, Angela’s sister, 17-year-old Goodnews Akpan, recently gave birth to a baby at Pastor Udoh’s Church.
It was also gathered that Angela was arrested on Saturday at Sango Ota. She, thereafter, led the Police to the other suspects where they were arrested.
The Lagos State’s Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said they invaded the suspects premises as a result of the intelligence report they received. He said that the police got wind of Peace Udoh’s frantic efforts of wanting to sell Akpan’s baby.
Although Pastor Udoh and the other suspects arrested denied the allegations, the Lagos CP, however, says that they are making efforts to save the other children the pastor has sold.
On the other hand, Goodnews Akpan, a secondary school dropout rescued at the facility said she never knew that the pastor and her accomplice were making plans to sell her baby. She also told the police that she ran to Lagos from Akwa Ibom to hide her pregnancy.
