Acting President Meets Governors, Ministers Over Food Production

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo met with governors and ministers who are members of the Presidential Task Force for Wheat and Rice production on Monday.

The meeting, which took place in the Presidential Villa, was called to address the rising prices of food items in the country.

Those at the meeting were governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, his Kano counterpart, Abdullahi Ganduje; Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi, and Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa.

Ministers of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Audu Ogbe, Finance, Kemi Adeosun and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele were also in attendance.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, governor Bagudu said government was worried and wanted to find a quick way out of the food price crisis.

He said the meeting with the acting president reviewed the wheat and rice programmes and what could be done to increase production.

Bagudu said the acting president assured the meeting that the Federal Government would continue to support the drive towards self-sufficiency in food security.

The Kebbi State governor said the government would, as a matter of necessity, support the farmers, the millers and other stakeholders involved in the value chain.
