AWC 2016: Omagbemi Impressed With Build-up

Super Falcons head coach Florence Omagbemi is impressed with the performance of players in camp as the team intensify preparations for the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Holders Nigeria will confront rivals Black Queens of Ghana, Mali, and Kenya in Group B of the tournament scheduled to hold from November 19 to December 3.

In a statement on the Nigeria Football Federation’s website, the coach noted that though the foreign-based players were yet to arrive, she was happy with the team’s form.

“I am impressed with the sessions I have had with the ladies. It’s a process and we have just started.

“We want to build from where we stopped from the qualifiers because I still have the players we used to execute those matches.

“We are just waiting for the foreign–based players to join the team and we will continue.

“When we get to Cameroon, we will take each and every of our matches one at a time, but right now the main objective is to prepare the team well for the tournament.

The Falcons coach knows that Nigerians expect her side to go all the way in Cameroon and she appears hopeful of their chances the central African country.

“I know that everyone is expecting us to go to Cameroon to do well. By God’s grace, with sound preparation we will do well,” Omagbemi said.

The overseas-based players expected are, Rita Chikwelu (Umea IK, Sweden), Ngozi Okobi (Vittsjo FC, Sweden); Faith Ikidi (Pitea IF, Sweden) and Ngozi Ebere (PSG Ladies,France).

Others are Evelyn Nwabuoku (Avant Guingamp,France),  Desire Oparanozie (Avant Guingamp,France), Francisca Ordega (Washington Spirit, USA) and Asisat Oshoala (Arsenal Ladies).
