NRC Suspends Warri-Itakpe Service After Train Derails

After a train derailed at kilometer 30 of the Ajaokuta-Itakpe portion of the track, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Sunday stopped the rail service between Warri and Itakpe.
According to DAILY POST, the incident on Sunday left nearly 300 people stuck inside Kogi forest.
Sanni Abdulganiyu, the Warri-Itakpe train service coordinator, verified the event and stated that security officials were summoned to the location right away.
He said that no fatalities or casualties were reported.
“The Warri-Itakpe train service WITS 01 derailed at about 12:30hrs of January 22, 2023.
“The cause of the derailment is not yet determined. Due to this incident, the service along the corridor has been suspended. Further details would be communicated to members of the public,” he added.
