Why Man City May Not Play Champions League Football Next Season

Premier League Champions, Manchester City faces the threat of missing next season Champions League if found guilty of fresh claims by Uefa investigators over alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play.

However, the club is confident that the case against them was not strong enough to lead to punishment from European football’s governing body.

They issued a defiant statement in response to investigations in March, declaring: “Manchester City welcome the opening of a formal Uefa investigation as an opportunity to bring to an end the speculation resulting from the illegal hacking and out of context publication of City emails. The accusation of financial irregularities are entirely false.”

A final decision over the current investigations is not expected to be reached until the start of next season, meaning the earliest a ban could be enforced would be in 2020-21.

Man City could also appeal, via the Court of Arbitration for Sport, causing further delays.
