Desire Oparanozie finished off a delicious buildup for the Super Falcons but Canada came from behind to edge out Nigeria 2-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly played on Monday in Spain.

Uchenna Kanu dribbled past two Canadian players before setting up Oparanozie whose great composure and delightful finish made the Canadian defence look miserable at the Pinatar Arena, Murcia.

The goal appeared to have rattled the Canadians, who are ranked fifth in the world, as they fought back and had the last laugh.

The North Americans leveled scores three minutes after the break through Beckie Janine.

Thereafter, substitute Sophie Schmidt netted the winner in the 53rd minute with her well-placed header going past Tochukwu Oluehi.

The African champions had walloped Icelandic Women’s top-flight side UMF Selfoss 6-1 in a friendly on Friday.

Next for them is the WAFU Women’s Tournament as they continue their buildup for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

The eight-nation WAFU B tournament, involving Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Senegal, Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic, holds from May 8 to May 18 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The draw for the tournament has been scheduled for April 16.

After the tournament, the Super Falcons, the most decorated national football team in Africa, will move to the Avita Resort in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Austria.

Meanwhile, watch how Oparanozie had fun in scoring Nigeria’s goal against Canada.
