NFF Renames Federations Cup Aiteo Cup, Winner To Get N25m

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has renamed the Federations cup as Aiteo Cup after reaching an agreement with Nigerian energy conglomerate, Aiteo group, which acquired the naming right of the competition.

The energy firm is expected to sponsor the historic competition for the next five years for both men and women leagues.

Speaking after the signing of the agreement, the Group Executive Director (Corporate Services/ General Counsel), Barr. Andrew Obinna Onyearu promised that it will work with the NFF to where greater impact will be felt in the game.

Bafana Bafana clash

At the press conference where the agreement was signed , NFF president, Amaju thanked the firm for coming out to support the local content and promote Nigeria football.

He also assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles would qualify for the African Nations Cup in 2019 and would go to South Africa and defeat the Bafana Bafana team in the return leg of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

“I promise you, we will not only qualify for AFCON but we will beat South Africa in South Africa,”  he vowed.

Football development

Speaking on the development, second Vice President of the NFF and chairman of the League Management Company (LMC ), Shehu Dikko, said only Nigerians will be able to develop Nigeria football.

Also speaking, Independent Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) said she is elated that the women FA Cup was given attention in the deal as well.

“I am very excited that the women (women’s FA Cup) have been taken care of,” she stated.

Dare Esan, a journalist, lauded the company for coming to the rescue of Nigerian football.

“We didn’t have a company that had Nigeria in mind until Aiteo came in,” he stated.

On his part, Francis Peters, DMD Aiteo, said the gesture was to improve the state of football in the Nigerian league.

“We actually have things to do with this money like give our Shareholders but we are doing this for Nigeria”, he said.


The winner of the competition in the male category will be rewarded with N25m, with runner up going home with N10m

In the female category, the winner smile home with N10m while the runner up will get N5m for reaching the final.

Last year’s winners, men got N2m, women N1m.
