Former Senate leader Ali Ndume has condemned the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan for the position of Senate President in the ninth National Assembly.

Ndume, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, said the choice of Lawan was an unpopular decision.

Senator Ndume said both President Muhammadu Buhari and National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, gave him  their consent when he approached them for their support to contest the Senate presidency.

The Borno senator, who expressed shock over the action of the party, however, said he would consult the leaders of the party in the North East and his colleagues who are supporting his aspiration, before taking a final position on the issue.

He said, “All my colleagues at the occasion yesterday (Monday) were shocked when Adams Oshiomhole unilaterally announced his decision to endorse Lawan as candidate of the party.

“It is an unpopular decision because I am sure that President Buhari and other leaders of the party are not in support of that action. None of the stakeholders was also consulted.”
