The Ministry of Women Affairs has announced its collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to foster the inclusive growth of female entrepreneurs across the country.
During the launch of a dedicated Desk for Women and Youth Empowerment by SMEDAN, Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, highlighted the importance of the initiative. She emphasized that the establishment of this Desk, equipped with modern tools, will not only provide targeted programs for skill acquisition but also pave the way for the emergence of more female entrepreneurs, promoting self-reliance and employability.
The Minister underscored the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the profitable marketing of entrepreneurs’ products by linking SMEDAN with its E-portal platform. This platform aims to serve as a comprehensive marketplace for all stakeholders involved in product sales.
Describing women as “investment multipliers” and essential contributors to prosperity, Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the new Desk would facilitate the stimulation, monitoring, and coordination of women, encouraging them to become employers of labor and fostering the establishment of more cottage industries in the country.
Commending SMEDAN for its conscious efforts to prioritize youth, women, and the vulnerable in society, the Minister highlighted the alignment of these efforts with the policy thrust of the current Administration.
Earlier, Mr. Charles Odii, the Director-General of SMEDAN, outlined the focus of the newly launched Desk, emphasizing training, facilitation of capital for trainees, and creating avenues for market accessibility. He expressed SMEDAN’s commitment to continued collaboration with other relevant agencies to drive government policy initiatives.
Mr. Odii extended gratitude to Honourable Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye and the Ministry’s Management and Staff for their determination in ensuring the full implementation of federal government policies, initiatives, and programs in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration.
