An unidentified Army Lieutenant was yesterday kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be militants.

The army officer was kidnapped while he was on patrol in the Ijedodo area of Abuke-Ado, Lagos, according to The Vanguard.

Members of the Nigerian Army group Operation AWATSE had been earlier deployed to the area to curb the activities of the militants who have been terrorising residents of the area and its environs.

In reaction to the abduction, a joint force comprising both military and Police personnel formed up and invaded the creeks around the area.

There have been sporadic shots as the task force went in search of their kidnapped comrade.

A part of the men headed for a suspected hideout where they believe the Lietenant is while others were positioned at locations that would ensure the criminals do not escape.

When contacted, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, said he cannot confirm the incident yet but would do so once he has enough information.

Whereas the Spokesperson of 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Major Mba Leme, could not be reached for comments, as he did not accept the calls made to him, reports the Vanguard.
