Melaye Raises Petition Over Osinbajo’s Refusal To Assent Three Bills

Senator representing Kogi central senatorial district, Dino Melaye has raised petition over Acting President’s refusal to assent three bills sent to him.
During the plenary session, Senate President, Bukola Saraki read 3 letters from Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo where he withheld assent to 3 bills; namely ‘” dangerous drug amendment bill 2016″, ‘ National Lottery bill, 2016’ and the ‘Agricultural Guaranteed Credit Scheme Bill’.
According to part of the letter read, the bill recently passed by the National Assembly is withheld due to concerns regarding words, phrases used and the spirit behind the amendment.
On the National Lottery bill, 2016′, Osinbajo withheld assent to it due to a pending legal issue.
Meanwhile, this didn’t sit well with some senators. One of them is Sen. Dino Melaye who has raised a petition on the refusal by the Ag. President to assent to 3bills passed by the National Assembly and will be seeking redress in court.
Responding, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki said the issue will be referred to the legal department for advice and interpretations of the law.
