Maikaba’s Exit Worries Wikki Tourists
Chairman of Wikki Tourists Isa Matori on Monday expressed sadness over the departure of head coach Abdu Maikaba.
Maikaba, who guided the Bauchi side to third spot at the end of the 2015/2016 NPFL season, resigned from his position last week.
His exit, according to the club’s chairman, came at the wrong time as the north-east side are getting set to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time since 2008.
“We are not happy that Maikaba has decided to leave us after we have picked a continental ticket.
“We parted without any quarrel. Only that we are worried that he is leaving us now after working for the team to place third on the league table and gain a continental ticket.
“We had no problem with him. We are still going to meet somewhere during next season since he is still in the country.
Matori, however, stated that the club will resist any attempt by other teams to illegitimately acquire their players, adding that he had already cautioned the erstwhile Wikki handler.
“We wish him well in his endeavors but had cautioned him against taking any player of the club along with him without following due process.
“Any player willing to leave the club should follow FIFA laid down guidelines and leave honorably as we cannot force any player to stay back if he wishes to leave for another club or greener posture,” he said.
