Lawyer Slams AU, ECOWAS Over Kanu’s Continued Detention

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead counsel to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has slammed the African Union, AU, and the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
In a terse statement Ejiofor wondered why the AU and the ECOWAS are always silent when laws are broken in West Africa but find their voice when the situation suits them.
Ejiofor said this while linking his client’s case who had remained in detention despite a court in Nigeria granting his release.
He shared on X, “If I may reasonably ask?
“What really is the AU and ECOWAS’ definition of constitutional order? Is it a situation where a man is freed by a Court of Appeal in a supposed constitutional democracy, yet, he is still held in solitary confinement almost a year after he was freed by the court?
Or is it a scenario where the will of the people expressed through the ballot during an election is brazenly usurped?
“ECOWAS turns a blind eye as constitutional democracy is being destroyed across West Africa, particularly in Nigeria. They only speak about constitutional order only when it suits their mischievous and selfish purposes and those of their Western puppeteers.”
