LAUTECH Lecturers Set To Call Off Strike

The eight-month-long strike embarked on by the lecturers of  Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) might be called off today.

According to Premium Times, academic duties might resume soon in the university whose students’ recently irked the governor of Oyo state, Governor Ajimobi, for daring to protest what they believe to be an injustice.

Biodun Olaniran, the chairman of the LAUTECH arm of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), told the Premium times that the body intends holding a congress on Tuesday (today) and there are indications that the strike would be called off.

He said: “We have made progress and all things been equal we should have the strike called off, I am in a discussion with the ASUU National Executive Council already.”

Members of the National Executive Council of ASUU are also expected to attend the LAUTECH congress.

In his reaction to the news, Bolaji Afeez, Senior Special Assistant to the Oyo State Governor on Youth and Students’ Affairs, said the government has done its part in getting the lecturers back to class.

However, the academic staff refused to resume as they demanded that the governments of Osun and Oyo states give answer to their grievances. They demanded written commitments from both governments to that end.
