We Banned Shiites In Plateau Due To Security Risk – Lalong

The Governor of Plateau State Simon Lalong has stated that security considerations were purely responsible for the ban on the activities of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in the state.

Lalong had banned the group last week following a series of protests that turned violent and led to the deaths of some of the sect members after a clash with security personnel. Some members of the group were also injured while many were arrested.

But the Islamic Movement accused him of merely copying what his Kaduna counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai, had done in his state.

And the governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Dan Manjang, noted that the ban was in line with the laws governing the state on religious activities.

“Plateau State has laws regulating the practice of religions. We have a duty to ensure that the practice of religion does not constitute a security risk to anyone,” Lalong said in Jos on Monday.
