Lagos High Court Goes On Christmas Vacation, Says Provision In Place for Urgent Cases
The Lagos State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba, has announced that the High Court will begin its annual Christmas vacation on Thursday, December 24, 2021, and end on Monday, January 3, 2022.
A statement signed by Hon. Justice Alogba said the vacation dates were approved pursuant to Order 49 Rules 4(C) and 5 of the High Court of Lagos (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, noting that the court will resume work on January 4th, 2022.
He, however, stated that arrangements have been made to deal with urgent cases.
His words: “Arrangements for dealing with urgent cases during the Christmas vacation are that each Judge will deal with all urgent applications related to any substantive cause already assigned to him or her”.
“Any urgent application, the substantive cause of which has not already been assigned, will be dealt with by the judge to whom the application is specifically assigned,” the Chief Judge stated.
Hon. Justice Alogba maintained that notwithstanding the provisions of Order 49 Rule 4 (SUPRA), any case or matter may be heard by a Judge during the period of the Christmas vacation where such a cause is urgent, provided that the conditions prescribed by Order 49 Rule 5 (SUPRA) shall be observed and complied with.
