Lagos Court Remands 11 Suspects For Murder

Charges and Arraignment
Eleven suspected cult members have been remanded by a Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State. The defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate O. Y Adefope on charges of conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society, and the murder of three members of a rival cult group.
Alleged Ambush and Murders
According to the prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, the cultists gathered in the Ikorodu area of Lagos on May 23, 2023, and planned an ambush against members of the Aiye Confraternity in the Ogolontoto area. The prosecution alleges that the suspects carried out the ambush, resulting in the murder of three rival cult members named Saheed, Ope, and David.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The prosecutor informed the court that one of the suspects, identified as Enigbokan, was apprehended. Enigbokan subsequently led the police to arrest ten other individuals believed to be connected to the crime. The offenses for which they were charged are in violation of Section 2 (3)(a)(b)(d)(e) of the Unlawful Society and Cultism Laws of Lagos State 2021.
Magaji requested that the defendants be remanded in custody until the investigation is completed. The Chief Magistrate granted the request and ordered the defendants to be remanded in a correctional center. The case has been adjourned until August 11, 2023, pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
