Kogi Govt Begins School Adoption, Mentorship Programme

The Kogi State Government on Tuesday launched the School Adoption and Mentorship Programme to further enhance academic excellence in public secondary schools in the state.

Birthed by the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the programme is aimed at encouraging stakeholders to build up students at the senior secondary school level by adopting and mentoring them towards making a better future.

It also involves adopting public secondary schools and providing them with necessary materials and equipments; and making their environments more conducive for teaching and learning

Flagging off the programme at the Government House in Lokoja, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade (PhD) said the state government gave priority attention to education to cater for the future, hence the increased budgetary allocation to the sector; maintaining that no child should be left out of school in the state.

He charged stakeholders on giving appropriate mentorship to secondary school students noting that the students could still get things right at that level with good and timely counsel.

While explaining that coming from humble background should not limit any child in life, he encouraged students to strive to be the best they could ever be by working hard to improve on their status.

The state education boss and brain behind the worthy cause, Hon. Wemi Jones FCIB IION, commended the Governor for accenting his approval and making the programme a reality.

He announced that the Programme would be launched in different phases until the grassroots were well covered.

He called on stakeholders to adopt students and schools in the state for mentorship to revolutionise the state education sector; observing that “government cannot do it alone”.
