Kano Governor Subsidizes Hajj Fare Amidst Price Hike

In response to a sudden surge in Hajj fares by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has announced a subsidy of N500,000 for each intending pilgrim from the state embarking on the 2024 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Governor Yusuf’s decision comes as a relief to intending pilgrims who were facing financial strain due to the unexpected increase in Hajj fares. The subsidy aims to alleviate the financial burden on pilgrims and ensure that they can fulfill their religious obligations without undue hardship.

Under the subsidy scheme, intending pilgrims who have already registered and paid the initial deposit will now benefit from a reduced total deposit, easing the financial pressure associated with the pilgrimage.

The move underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens in practicing their faith and undertaking religious obligations. By providing financial assistance to pilgrims, Governor Yusuf’s administration aims to facilitate the pilgrimage process and ensure that all eligible individuals can participate in this significant religious journey.

The subsidy announcement is likely to be welcomed by the Muslim community in Kano and beyond, as it demonstrates the government’s responsiveness to the needs of its citizens, particularly in matters of religious significance.
