JAMB Act: Senate Suspends Amendment

The Senate has suspended its plan to amend the Act establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, barely two weeks after it announced its intention to amend it.

The red chamber had commenced the process of amending the Act, stating it was to create opportunity for the extension of the validity period of the result of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by JAMB to three years

But the Senate said the move was suspended in order to extensively discuss the plan with all relevant stakeholders.

In an interview with journalists in Abuja, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education and former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, represented by Senator Ajayi Boroffice, confirmed the suspension of the amendment, during an oversight visit to the headquarters of JAMB.

He said, “Your JAMB result is only valid for one year and we thought it will be better for it to be valid at least for three years.

”It will reduce the burden on the parents, on the students themselves and even on the institution that is conducting the test.

“I think it is what is good for all of us and I don’t think the public will reject it.”
