ITTF: Nigeria Earn Berth In 2018 Team Championships

Nigeria’s male table tennis team have booked their place at the 2017 ITTF World Team Championships in Sweden.
This was achieved on the back of their second-place finish at the African Senior Championships in Morocco.
The Morocco tournament serves as qualifiers for the ITTF competitions in 2017 and 2018.
And Egypt, who beat Nigeria in the men’s team event final, also earned their berth in next year’s championships.
The north Africans and Nigeria top the list for the World Team Championships after finishing among the top 36 teams at the 2016 World Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Togo’s men’s team also qualified for the competition. That was due to their second-place finish in the fourth division at the 2016 World Team Championship in Malaysia.
Other teams in the men’s list are Algeria, Congo, Tunisia, South Africa and Senegal.
No show for the women’s team
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s women’s team will not be at the competition after failing to participate at the tournament.
Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Congo and Morocco will then represent the continent in the women’s team event.
In the meantime, Nigeria will battle Egypt in the final of Morocco 2016 mixed doubles event on Friday. Segun Toriola and Funke Oshonaike will face Egypt’s Omar Assar and Dina Meshref. The Egyptians are the defending champions of the event.
