Iheanacho Returns City To Premier League Summit

By Andah John
Kelechi Iheanacho’s second half strike returned Manchester City to the Premier League summit despite failing to win in five matches following a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday.
The visitors open scoring
The Saints took the lead just before the half-hour mark. It came through Nathan Redmond when John Stones’ sloppy pass paved way for the Southampton striker, who rounded Claudio Bravo and slot the ball into an empty net.
Iheanacho restores parity
Pep Guadiola’s side came into the second haft more determined to change the game. And it wasn’t long before Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheancho connected with Leroy Sane’s low cross to put City on level terms.
The home team continued pressing for a winner. But they had a stumbling block in the shape of Southampton’s goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who produced brilliant saves to deny Ikay Gundogan and David Silva.
Guardiola winless streak hits five
With this result, Pep Guardiola has failed to win in five consecutive games, the second time in his managerial career.
But the result was enough for City to reclaim top spot, pushing Arsenal and Liverpool to second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, Southampton remain in eighth after extending their unbeaten run in the league to a fifth game.
