ICPC chairman, Ekpo Nta, has been sent on compulsory leave. The order is said to be a sack by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, Nta was told to proceed on compulsory leave beginning from October 26.

According to sources, the Chairman had earlier received two letters from the office of the SGF. They both informed him to proceed on compulsory leave, which he allegedly ignored.

Nta was appointed by President Jonathan in acting capacity in 2011 and was confirmed a year after by the Senate.

Nta had been said to have engaged the presidency on the length of his tenure. He argued that it would end on November 17, 2017 and President allegedly retorted that by his records, it ends November 17, 2016.

No particular reason was given for the abrupt sack. It is however believed that it could be as a result of his handling corruption cases against former governors.
