Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has dissolved the management board of Kano Pillars football club over their poor run in the recently concluded Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The four-time Nigerian champions finished 7th in the league and missed out of a place on the continent.

The Kano State governor announced the dissolution at the Government House during a meeting with the State’s basketball team on Wednesday.

Reason for the sack

Ganduje explained that he had to sack the board following infighting among its members.

”I hereby dissolve the board and management of Kano Pillars FC due to internal squabble and poor performance,”

“I am not happy with what happened in the outgoing board in which the members were fighting for their own interests instead of putting heads together to move the club forward,” he said.

Former NFF president takes charge

Chairman of Kano State sports commission Ibrahim Galadima has been directed by the governor to draw up recommendations on a new structure  for the club.

The new recommendations are understood to include plans to hire a new head coach for the new season.
