Flying Eagles Return Home After Impressive U-20 World Cup Run

Arrival and Reception in Abuja

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) joyfully announced the safe return of the country’s U-20 team after their exit from the U-20 World Cup in Argentina.

The team, accompanied by their officials, arrived in Abuja on Thursday afternoon via Ethiopian Airlines, as confirmed in a statement posted on the NFF’s official Twitter handle.

Quarter-Final Achievement and Loss

Ladan Bosso and his talented squad reached the quarter-finals of the U-20 World Cup, marking Nigeria’s first appearance at this stage since 2011.

Despite their commendable performance throughout the tournament, they suffered a defeat to South Korea, narrowly missing out on a place in the semifinals.

Notable Victories and Bittersweet Farewell

The Flying Eagles showcased their skills and determination by securing impressive victories over European champions Italy and the Dominican Republic during the group stage.

In a stunning upset, they eliminated the host nation Argentina, a six-time champion, in the round of 16.

However, their remarkable journey came to an end in the quarter-finals at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero, where they were defeated by Korea Republic, with Choi Seok-Hyun scoring the deciding goal in the sixth minute of extra time.
